Temperature to soar by 3-5°C in Kolkata, unseasonal thunderstorms and rains to persist

South Bengal is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures, with an increase of three to five degrees Celsius expected by the end of this week. The Alipur Meteorological Department has indicated that this surge will affect cities like Kolkata and several southern districts. The warmer weather is anticipated to begin gradually, with temperatures reaching higher than usual by the weekend. However, this temperature rise will be preceded by ongoing unseasonal thunderstorms and rain.

From Monday to Wednesday, light showers are expected to occur intermittently in Kolkata and surrounding areas. The region will also witness winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, and in some districts like Nadia, Murshidabad, and Birbhum, the wind speed may increase to 40 to 50 km/h. Thunderstorms are predicted in multiple areas, with authorities issuing alerts for districts like North and South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, and Nadia, where heavy winds and rain could disrupt normal activities.

While rain continues to affect South Bengal, North Bengal will also experience similar weather conditions. Areas like Darjeeling and Kalimpong have been warned of thunderstorms and gusty winds, with speeds possibly reaching 50 km/h. After Thursday, South Bengal is expected to transition to a dry spell, while temperatures are predicted to rise gradually in both North and South Bengal, marking a notable increase in the overall heat for the coming days.
